✔️ Composition (per capsule)

Elemental Iron: 50 mg (as Carbonyl Iron INN)

Folic Acid: 500 mcg (BP)

Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP: 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.5 mg Zinc)

✔️ Side Effects

• Mostly gastrointestinal, including:
• Nausea, vomiting, anorexia
• Abdominal discomfort
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Dark stools (harmless)
• Rarely: allergic reactions

✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

• First trimester: Avoid unless iron deficiency is clearly diagnosed.
• Second & third trimester: Prophylactic use is justified when dietary intake of iron, folic acid, and zinc is inadequate.
• Safe during lactation under medical guidance.

✔️ Pharmacology

Carbonyl Iron: Contains ≥98% elemental iron, with high bioavailability and low toxicity, making it safer and more effective than conventional iron salts.

Folic Acid: Essential for DNA synthesis, red blood cell maturation, and prevention of neural tube defects.

Zinc: Important for cell growth, immune function, and enzymatic activities.

This timed-release formulation improves tolerability, with iron pellets reducing gastrointestinal irritation.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Adults: 1 capsule daily, preferably before meals, or as directed by a physician.

✔️ Drug Interactions

Carbonyl Iron reduces absorption of:

• Tetracyclines
• Quinolones
• Levodopa
• Levothyroxine
• Methyldopa
• Penicillamine

Folic Acid may reduce plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone (antiepileptics).

✔️ Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component

Iron overload conditions (e.g., hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis)

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

Use with caution in iron overload states:

• Hemochromatosis
• Hemolytic anemia
• Aplastic anemia

Lack of response may indicate other causes of anemia, requiring further evaluation.

In renal failure, risk of zinc accumulation exists.
